Community of Practice
Reflection of the Month
Tuesday, October 10, 2023
4:00pm-5:30pm London

(11:00am New York / 5:00pm Berlin / 5:00pm Jo'burg)

The ROM forum is dedicated to applying a structured and systematic Reflective Practice to learn from our experiences and improve our practice and way of being with one another through the lens of Dialogic Relations and Professional Dialogue.

Our focus is to improve practice. Therefore, it is essential to bring your cases, examples of experiencing a dilemma, tension, conflict, or any other concern you would like to examine reflectively with the help of colleagues.

In October, we will continue exploring the experience of listening. Before our gathering, we encourage you to pay attention to questions like what are the situations when you listen well, what discourages you from doing so, what are significant obstacles to being a good listener, when you stop listening, and why.

_______________________

Who? We are consultants, facilitators, and 3rd party interveners advancing dialogue and constructive conflict engagement, slowly but surely forming a reflective learning community.

How? We gather every other month for 90 minutes.

Why? To support one another in improving our professional work and nurturing meaningful relations in organizations and communities through cognitive Reflective Practice (see Tzofnat Peleg-Baker and Michael Lang recent article).

What? We draw on research-based structured reflective frameworks for Reflective Practice and explore their application for generating meaningful and dialogic relationships and interventions. These frameworks help disrupt habitual patterns of thinking and relating that stand in the way of improving our professional practice, healthy connections, and building more constructive habits. We envision our reflections leading us to explorations like inclusivity, power relations, conflict, freedom, the role of 3rd parties and bystanders, and excelling in our profession.

  1. I am noticing how my thoughts from our 18 Jul session yesterday (and prior session) continue to bubble within me a day later, almost like a guitar string that has been plucked and continues to provide sound. Maybe this part is the third element of Peters 3 levels of reflection deemed the ‘sense making’. The skill I am applying is listening and internally questioning, what is my / our collective learning here, where have I met my edges, how did it make me feel and why do I feel like that? The reflection doesn’t seem to end at the end of the session it continues on and provides more of a different quality of reflection. I wanted to share and support this ongoing work. Thanks

  2. Hey Carol,
My apologies for the disconnect. I have had hectic time since we last gathered.
I always value your thoughts and continued engagement! An important goal in this reflective learning group is to continue thinking and processing between meeting what happened in the actual meeting beacuse it enhances our capabilities to test new insights in our practice and improve.
I look forward to next time to continue our transformative work.

  3. Thank you and really enjoy where the sessions move us to. Hectic is indeed how it feels at the moment, looking forward to the next session.

    • We hope for a mutual learning journey, and we eagerly anticipate drawing inspiration and insights from the experiences of all participants. I’m looking forward to it!

      Warm regards,
      Tzofnat”

  4. Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I wanted to inform you that Jane will be leading today’s gathering in my absence. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing devastating situation in Israel, the majority of flights have been canceled.

In an effort to make it to a conference in Atlanta taking place this week, my flight has been rescheduled for tonight. Consequently, I regret to say that I will not be able to attend our session today. I have full confidence that you will have a productive and insightful discussion, and I look forward to rejoining you all on November 21st.

    Warm regards,
    Tzofnat
